Every day in Hawaii, Cliff and I would take our school books to the beach, promising ourselves we'd actually get homework done (we spent a summer in Hawaii as visiting students at BYU-Hawaii). The books always stayed in the bags, and really just contributed to our daily exercise, as we'd throw our backpack on and walk to the next beach or the next bus stop. Though we did not delve into our books, we definitely got plenty of sun and surf (have I ever mentioned how obsessed I am with that place? Oh yeah, once or twice).
Our first couple days there, I turned into a cherry tomato despite the sunblock I applied (oh wait, maybe it's because I used tanning lotion instead. I've learned to appreciate my skin since those days). Cliff on the other hand, never turned a shade of red (never does). His cheeks sometimes were a little rosey, but instead of any sign of sunburn, his skin just turned darker and darker and darker. He started out looking his usual self--a white boy with really good skin color. He progressively (hmmm...rather quickly) turned darker, often being mistaken as a Poly (but really, he was just looking more Mexican--letting that 50% of his blood shine through). Suddenly, after just a few days, his tan line was UNBELIEVABLE, and I was still red from day one.
Well, I learned last week that Stone is the same! We've been playing outside quite a bit, and after just one day at the park and one run with me in his jogging stroller, this kid now has major tanlines on his feet from his sandles. Never did they turn red (he, too, had rosey cheeks for a little bit), but instead, his skin just went from a nice color to an even nicer/darker skin color. Pardon the blurry pictures. Getting a toddler to stand still for a picture of his feet is attempting the impossible. Especially my toddler.
no folks, those are not dirty feet.

Haha...so true and so cute! Love those lil feetsies!
That's awesome. I wish I had that type of skin.
Haha! I love it! Kylie is the same way!
I'm jealous Cliff and Stone!!
My kids and husband are the same way. It doesn't matter how much sunscreen I put on them, they just keep getting darker. Beautiful skin! I have to say, I'm a little jealous :)
