Emerson!

Photobucket

With Stone's birthday, Emerson has been left out a bit in the last couple of posts. So it's time to update you on this sweet girl!

She is a FISH! I think she will be swimming without her floaties by the end of the summer. She is doing fantastic in the water these days. She follows her brother's lead. I'll have to get another under water post up soon.

She is thrilled about the baby coming. Every day, she comes to my belly, rubs it, kisses it, and says, "Baby's coming!!"

She is so obedient, but follows Stone's lead at any given point (and he's what I'd call a little mischievous). They are BEST buds. They do everything together these days. Stone will dress her up as Super Girl in her cape and mask, and he'll suit up as some hero, and they go off to save the world together.

She is in desperate need of a dog. She is obsessed with dogs. In fact, she'll pretend she is a dog, and Stone will put a treat on her nose, and she'll pop her head to get it in her mouth. I have a video of that and need to get it up here. Maybe Santa will surprise them with one this year...

She is seriously a JOY. And I know she's going to be an awesome big sister. The countdown is on!

Stone V. 5.0

Photobucket

And finally a few 5 year portraits of Stone, accompanied with some insights.

Stone V. 5.0
*He is still feisty (started in the womb, and hasn't stopped)
*He is still obsessed with ALL superheroes. Right now, Spiderman is probably at the top of his list. Dang marketers with the new movie (I say that kind of jokingly, because I was an ad {wo}man not too long ago).
*He is very athletic and active.
*He is a great swimmer.
*He sings, and I LOVE it.
*He loves affirmation. When telling stories to anyone, he'll turn to me and say, "Right Mom? Right Mommy?"
*He is starting to learn a little Spanish.
*He is a protective big brother.
*If I let him have the Picante Top Ramen soup every day, he'd be in heaven.
*He copies Cliff. If Cliff wears jeans, he wears jeans. If Cliff says something, it's in his vocabulary the next day.
*His memory is phenomenal. Not only does he remember everything he hears and learns, but if I ask him where he learned that, he can tell me.
*He is smart.

I could go on and on about this kid, and how awesome he is. He is awesome, and I really can't believe he is FIVE! TIME FLIES.

We have a FIVE year old!

Photobucket

On our trip, Stone turned FIVE. How did this happen? Here I am weeks away from giving birth to our third child, yet I feel like it was just yesterday we brought him into the world. He is by far the most witty kid I know. He's smart, he's funny, may have a bit of an attitude problem these days, and keeps us on our toes. All around, he's an awesome kid, and makes our life a joy.

We threw a Cowboy/Indian party for him. We had it at Marcy and Kevin's (my in laws). This was his invitation:

Stone's middle name is Clifford. And we've always joked about how his name sounds Native American. "I'm Stone Cliff."

In honor of his party theme, Kevin (my father in law) went all out. He got Stone a REAL bow and arrows, and made a cow (look in the background) for everyone to rope (oh, and got lassos for the kids to do so!).

Stone ROCKS at the bow and arrow. He was hitting the cowboy target right in the head and chest. He was doing better than any of us!

My favorite thing I made for his party were the teepee cupcakes:

Above: I baked cupcakes inside of these cones. I'm glad I had these to redeem my cake disaster.  I don't think I'll be making cakes in the future.  It's just not my strong suit, what can I say. The cake kind of fell apart, but we made it work with building a Cowboy and Indian fight scene on top.

Below:
My father in law really rocks. He was the chef that day. I insisted we'd do something simple like ordering pizzas, but he had a church function to cook for, so he insisted on making enough for the party, as well. Awesome meats made by this rancher here.

He taught us how to rope some cattle (or kids, really).

Stone is a very outgoing kid. However, he gets so embarrassed when people talk about him or shine light on him (like singing "Happy Birthday"). When things like this happen, he plugs his ears.

With bows, arrows, food, family, and fun, the party was a success.

Marcy had an awesome hat. Have I mentioned I have the best in laws?!

My grandma was also at the party, and we love her so! We can't be together and not get a 4 generation shot. Stone was a little uncooperative by the end of the party, so he was missing for this.

Cliff was taking pictures of us, and when we thought he was done, he captured one of us being silly. :)
Photobucket And well, let's just say I'm grateful for black and white images. Because this is one image I care not share in color. hahaha. Stone and I were the Indians, and Cliff and Emerson were the cowboys. Altogether, we look like a mismatched bunch, hahaha. But it was fun. As a photographer, I really do love black and white. I'm kind of obsessed with black and white images. They highlight the best things in an image, including textures, and well, in this case, they can hide the not so great things (like mismatched color).

This concludes our 2 1/2 week vacation to Arizona and El Paso. We had a blast, but it's nice to be home and preparing these last few weeks for baby #3 to arrive. We're stoked!

More Arizona fun!

Arizona was a blast. Even the high triple digit weather didn't stop us from having a good time.

We stayed busy with fun with my mom. We swam in her pool every day, ate yummy food, took Stone to the barber shop (yes, the barber shop), went to Scottsdale where the kids rode a little train and carousel, did a little shopping, and had some 4th of July fun at the Klepingers (a blast).

Thanks to Instagram again, here are a few more pictures...

The Klepingers (Ashley's family) threw an awesome 4th of July fireworks show. It was legit. Huge fireworks went off in their backyard (including a dud that got mighty close to my kids and me--and Stone just said, "OH MY GOSH!! THAT WAS SOOOO COOL!).

This was Stone's first real firework display to see. The last TWO years, we were rained out, and had no fireworks. The year before that, we were in San Diego and saw a small one in the distance, but were having fun at the park and on the beach. And before that, he was too small to really enjoy the display. Emerson was just as entertained. It really was a blast!

A trip to Arizona wouldn't be complete without In-N-Out. So glad we have a few in Dallas now, but that's still a two hour drive...
Photobucket

We stayed busy, and if Emerson will sleep in a grocery cart, you KNOW she was exhausted from fun and entertainment. My children don't just sleep anywhere...
Photobucket

This was in Scottsdale on the train and carousel. The kids loved it!
Photobucket Photobucket

We also stopped by to see Charisse, my aunt. The kids loved her dogs, of course. It's always fun catching up with her! She was always like a 2nd mom growing up. She babysat us every weekend on date night.
Photobucket

My mom has an antique trumpet. Stone has always loved playing with it when we visit her. He wanted me to play on it, but there was no way I was putting my mouth on that thing.

Emerson couldn't get enough of it, either, and wanted her ear up nice and close.
Photobucket Photobucket

Jordan flew in for the wedding, as well. Always fun to see him. Stone had a blast with him, and when he left, he was so sad. He said, "Mama, Jo Jo plays with me like Daddy does. Now he's gone." ....you can tell we were missing Cliff! We were away from him 2+ weeks.
Photobucket

Altogether, we had a BLAST! We love love Arizona. We just wish the trip wasn't so far away!
